Fire Ventilation

Report Date: April 2005

Ventilation encompasses the fire operations that release fire or hot gases to the open and affect the flow of gases in a structure. For ventilation operations to be most effective, the theories of ventilation must be understood. Fire Ventilation combines experience and research to better understand smoke, pressure conditions, and the use of ventilation during fire operations. This book provides a description of the fundamental principles for the spread of smoke, the implementation of fire ventilation, and positive pressure ventilation. The book contains practical examples and provides guidelines on fire ventilation tactics. Fire Ventilation is primarily intended for the Swedish Rescue Service Agency’s training activities, but can be used as a resource for others.
