An Experimental Study on the Combustibles Investigation and Fire Growth Rate for Predicting Initial Fire Behavior in Building

Understanding compartment fire behavior is key to effective fire safety design and firefighting in buildings. Fire behavior in buildings depends on the properties of the combustibles. This report uses a full-scale model of a residential bedroom to investigate the combustible properties of various typical residential materials to help predict initial fire behavior in a compartment. Fire propagation for each combustible in the room was identified and the combined effect on overall temperature was measured and discussed. The details of the experiments and results were presented in the Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology.

By applying their skills and knowledge of fire and disaster prevention, students learn about public service to society.
